The Week with Grandma

After the funeral the boys and I decided to stay a week. I debated this back and forth for days, wondering what would be best for my mom. On one hand, the kids would be a distraction in all the things that still needed to be done, dealing with emotions, and with Roy’s family coming, to go through and take stuff from the basement. On the other hand, they would be a distraction…for the better…. So we stayed and made the best of it, and I’m glad we did. Matt flew back to work for the week and then came back on the weekend.

While Roy’s brothers, nephew and his wife were cleaning out the basement, (hauling truckloads of ammunition and propane tanks, thankfully they made it without getting pulled over or in an accident) Jack and Ginger took Roy’s truck to her house, but on the way I think it was the radiator that went out, and they had to tow it. It was such a huge ordeal, so I heard from Michelle, and she said she just had to laugh. She had so many crazy memories of that truck and believed her Dad was up in heaven watching them have one last adventure with it. (on a side note, I just saw on facebook that Ginger got the radiator put in. We knew she would cherish and take care of that truck).

 

Michelle could only stay until Tuesday and Sunday night she had a good friend, Matt,  offer to come and make us pizza for dinner. (The man in the black shirt)  Not just any pizza mind you….gourmet pizza of MANY varieties. It was divine and we were stuffed! AND THEN he proceeded with dessert pizza! How awesome he was He also told us experiences with his job. He is a type of engineer and installs the tv consoles that can come out from under your bed….not exactly sure how to explain it but he installed them for Cher…yes THE Cher and one in Barbara Streisand’s home. It was interesting to hear about their personalities and what they were like to work with.
Anyway, we were actually laughing and had a good time.

It was also a day spent watching General Conference and so many of the talks, I felt, were speaking directly to us. I love General Conference. Saturday we didn’t get to hear much of it, because of the funeral, but we did hear about the historic change in missionary age, boy’s can serve now at 18 years old and girls at 19- Awesome!

Another night that week McKayla spent a full evening playing with the boys. They love her and we were so happy to get to spend time with her. She’s been crazy busy with school and work.

We did lots of puzzles…

And also decided to get out of the house and go to a pumpkin patch at the Historic Wheeler Farm. We did the little corn maze, went on the hay ride, and then picked out some pumpkins!

 

We also watched Alex play football and he did awesome! Afterwards Sam let Tommy (and Alex) play around with his excavator AND bulldoze an old shed.Below are the before and after pictures.

 

Just hanging out…this is what we mainly did and it was good Notice the nice new carpet in the living room. Roy had installed it the weekend before he died. It was beautifully done.
It’s been six months since, but I vividly remember how extremely hard it was to say goodbye to my mom at the airport. ugh…So thankful for modern technology though…cellphones, texting, and skype
